Radd-ul-Fasaad not against any particular group: COAS

RAWALPINDI: The 200th Corps Commanders conference on Thursday reviewed the geo-strategic and security environment in the country, with special focus on internal security, Pak-Afghan border situation and Indian ceasefire violations along the Line of Control and working boundary, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

The meeting, held at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi and presided over by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, expressed confidence in the performance of military courts, agreeing, however, that the decision for reinstatement of the court rests with the government.

The corps commanders hailed the performance of security forces including police, intelligence and other Law Enforcement Agencies for effective response to recent terrorist attacks and comprehensive security arrangements for Pakistan Super League 2 final at Lahore, the ISPR statement said.

The forum also discussed Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad in detail. The army chief said that Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad is a comprehensive, across-the-board operation against terrorists and terrorism and not against any particular race, sect or a group.

Discussing the progress of the National Action Plan (NAP), the meeting concluded that the plan needs to be expedited jointly by respective stakeholders through Operation Radd- ul- Fasaad to ensure lasting peace and stability in the country. Participation and support by the Air Force and Navy in ongoing operations was also acknowledged.

According to the ISPR, Gen Bajwa informed the participants about discussions held during the last security conference with government authorities. The army chief apprised the participants of the phased fencing of Pak-Afghan border, repatriation of Afghan refugees, judicial, police and madrassah reforms and restarting execution of death sentences to terrorists awarded by military courts.

COAS also informed the participants about his visits to United Arab Emirates and Qatar leadership, which were successful in making positive progress.

The meeting also reviewed army's support in conducting the 6th Housing and Population Census 2017. Gen Bajwa said that army will undertake this task as a national service. The Dawn Leaks issue also came under discussion.

The forum concluded that hostile agencies are trying to undo Pakistan's gains in security and development, especially the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, pledging that their designs will be defeated through the support of the whole nation.

The participants also reiterated the resolve of the army to play its due role in the defence and security of the motherland, adding that the sacrifices made by resilient people of Pakistan and its brave security forces shall not go waste.
