LAHORE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz has plans to contest for a National Assembly seat in the 2018 general elections.

According to a report by senior journalist – Daily Jang Pervaiz Bashir, Maryam Nawaz will contest for NA seat from Lahore in the next general elections, due in 2018.

The PM’s daughter refuted earlier reports published recently that she was considering contesting sooner and said she had no plan or reason to do so.

When contacted for comments, Maryam Nawaz confirmed she plans to contest in 2018 elections but her decision has no connection with the Panama case, regardless of what the outcome of the case may be.

British media conglomerate BBC last week disclosed its latest additions to its curated list of Presidential Daughters around the world, which now has Maryam Nawaz and Ivanka Trump included among other authoritative figures.

On the website, BBC said that Maryam Nawaz "played a prominent role in managing her father's successful re-election campaign in 2013, [and] now works for his party, the right-wing Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz)."

The 43-year-old lady has risen to power rapidly, making a name for herself "as someone powerful, if not a designated political heir to her father," the media outlet's Urdu correspondent Asif Farooqi said.
