ABU DHABI/DUBAI: The 77th National Day of Pakistan was celebrated in the United Arab Emirates with zeal and fervour at the Embassy of Pakistan, Abu Dhabi and Consulate-General of Pakistan, Dubai.
The ceremony at Abu Dhabi was inaugurated with flag hoisting by Ambassador Moazzam Ahmed Khan and playing of the national anthem.
The ambassador welcomed the community members and said that Pakistanis residing in the UAE are a valuable asset for the country, and have been making tremendous contribution to Pakistan's economy through their remittances.
The ceremony in Dubai was also held with much zeal and the Consul General of Pakistan to Dubai Syed Jawad Hassan hoisted the National Flag at the consulate.
Talking to Geo.tv, Brigadier (retd) Hassan said that Pakistan has surpassed many milestones under the present leadership and every Pakistani in UAE was an "ambassador of Pakistan."
The UAE is home to approximately 1.3 million Pakistanis—the second-largest expatriate community in the country, which is gainfully employed and actively participates in the progress and development of the UAE, their second home.
Keeping the tradition alive, the Pakistan Association Dubai and Pakistan Social Centre of Sharjah also organised a series of events to celebrate Pakistan Day.
A cultural show was held at the Pakistan Social Centre where famous singer Saleem Javed sung national songs and comedian Hanif Raja enthralled the audience with his hilarious standup comedy.
Pakistan Social Centre's current President Khalid Hussain Chaudhry along with the community members also cut a cake on the auspicious day.
