LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party Co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari said on Sunday that during the last general elections, in 2013, he was ‘in handcuffs’ but now the situation has changed and he is in the field.
The PPP leader was addressing a press conference in Lahore, where he said that his son, PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto, and daughters are ready for the next elections.
“The time for the elections has come, now people will know what elections are,” he said.
The PPP leader reiterated that the party lost in the last elections in Punjab, due to ‘RO elections’, making an indirect reference to the elections being rigged.
For transparent elections, the PPP would consult all the political parties, said Zardari.
“When Shaheed Bibi (Benazir Bhutto) used to visit Lahore, the city would close down,” Zardari said. "It would happen again, entire Lahore would shut down.”
By looking at the enthusiasm of the party workers, he said, one could safely assume that PPP is ready to compete.
"PPP is ready for the elections in Punjab," said the former president.
