KARACHI: A suspect presented in city court Karachi was caught on camera using an illegal substance in the presence of a police officer.

The police officer accompanying the arrested individual expressed complete oblivion to the incident.

Talking to Geo News, suspect Khurram Abbas claimed that drugs are available in jail for PKR 300.

A case was registered against Abbas for possession of illegal drugs.

"This incident is not something unusual. The police usually provide illegal substances to suspects arrested for possession of drugs to avoid complications, in case the arrested individuals die due to withdrawal symptoms," said Geo News Karachi bureau chief Fahim Siddiqui.

He added that the police are actively involved in selling illegal substances including alcohol, heroin, hashish etc to prisoners. "The police provide these substances on higher rates," Siddiqui said.

In response to a question about the incident, SP court police Yaqoob Almani said: "The police official assigned to the suspect was responsible for stopping the arrested man. We will take legal action against the responsible official." Almani further stated that an investigation will be conducted on how the substance was delivered inside the court. “We are checking the court’s security," he said.
