KARACHI: Taking a lead from Pakistan cricket team’s signature celebratory style of doing push-ups, cricketers from Faisalabad paid tribute to their captain Misbahul Haq, after securing a victory in the semi-final of Quaid-e-Azam trophy grade II tournament.
Faisalabad defeated Sialkot by 32 runs in a nail-biting semi-final in Karachi on Thursday, defending a target of 170.
Soon after completing the win, Faisalabad players gathered and started doing push-ups facing their captain Misbahul Haq.
Doing push-ups became Pakistan cricket team’s celebratory after team’s historic win against England at Lord’s last year.
Misbah had said that push-ups were a way to pay tribute to the army trainers who trained Pakistani cricketers during a boot camp ahead of Pakistan team’s tour to England.
Faisalabad players said that they had the same strategy in mind while doing push-ups after completing the win against Sialkot, to pay Misbah a befitting tribute.
“We were defending a small total, but Misbah kept us motivating that we shouldn’t think about the small total and keep ourselves confident throughout the game,” said Khurram Shahzad of Faisalabad team.
Another player of team Ahmad Safi told geo.tv that it wasn’t a pre-decided move, one of the player shared the idea and everyone agreed to it.
Misbahul Haq was pleasantly surprised to see this move by his players. He initially told his players to wait until winning the final, but players insisted on doing push-ups.
When asked, Misbah said that it was a great feeling.
“It felt good,” said Misbah adding that he wants his team to continue with the form and win the final of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy grade II as well.
