IG Sindh AD Khawaja decides to not attend office on Monday to avoid clash: sources

KARACHI: Inspector General Sindh Allah Dino Khawaja has decided not to attend the office tomorrow to avoid a clash with Sindh government, sources close to the top cop told Geo News on Sunday.

Sources said that AD Khawaja cannot work with the consent of Sindh government. A hearing in this regard would also take place in Sindh High Court.

Even without waiting for the approval of the federal government, the provincial government issued another statement on Saturday stating that Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti has been appointed as the acting IG of Sindh.

Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti also held his first conference after taking charge on Sunday.

Speaking about the issue, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairperson Imran Khan said that an honest IG was brought in Sindh to finish the menace of corruption in the province.

“IG Sindh AD Khawaja is being removed from office because he was not involved in any wrongdoing”, he added.

Khawaja's 'forced leave'

Last year, Sindh government and the federal government had engaged in a tug-of-war pertaining to A.D. Khawaja’s appointment. On December 19, 2016, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had discharged A.D. Khawaja of all duties and sent him on 15-day leave. Responsibilities of IG Sindh Police were handed over to Additional IG Mushtaq Mehar, according to a notification.

The notification said that Khawaja went on a 15-day leave due to 'personal reasons'.

A.D. Khawaja had taken the charge as IG Sindh in March 2016, replacing Ghulam Haider Jamali, who was sacked in March 2016 after corruption charges.
