Balochistan education ministry constitutes team to monitor govt schools

QUETTA: Balochistan Director Education and Schools on Monday said that a special team —tasked to monitor government schools— has been constituted by the provincial ministry of education.

Muhammad Rafique Tareen said that the team consisting of staffers from Education department is given the mandate to identify ghost schools, monitor attendance of teachers and resources available to the schools.

He said that the efforts will be undertaken by the committee to ensure availability of basic resources in the government schools, further adding that the step was taken in view of the betterment of government schools and Education department to elevate the standard of education in the province.

Earlier, Balochistan Education Minister Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal informed during an assembly session that at least 900 ghost schools were identified by the provincial government, under which nearly 300,000 students through fake registration were shown.

The minister also claimed that the government could not find the record of 15,000 teachers – hence their salaries were immediately stopped until further notice.

Furthermore, in the Annual Pakistan District Education Ranking, it was found that a number of school in the Balochistan province lacks basic necessities such as toilets, clean drinking water, chairs and table, boundary wall and electricity.
