Students forced to attend event barefoot, red carpet for officials

JAMSHORO: Sindh government is known to make powerful statements regarding people’s welfare but barely are they followed by concrete or any action.

The government’s apathy became evident in yet another appalling scenario which occurred during an educational event in Jamshoro on Thursday.

During the event, which was held to announce that Japanese government has given 29 schools to Sindh government, red carpet was rolled out for education minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar and other dignitaries but the students and their parents were asked to take off shoes before entering the premises to ensure that the carpet is not ‘spoilt’.

About 18 air-conditioners, were also installed at the venue , with generators in standby, for the officials and a five-star buffet was also prepared for them. However, the students were just given a box of biryani each. Moreover, the performance the students had been preparing was also called off.

Education department has time and again claimed to work for the students’ benefit but its blatant disregard to their problems became evident at the event.
