Statement on story regarding Arundhati Roy

On May 16, a story was published on Geo.tv regarding statements attributed to Arundhati Roy during her visit to Srinagar

The story which had been widely reported by leading local and international news outlets was not given the proper editorial scrutiny that we normally subject news items to.

It was later brought to our knowledge that Arundhati Roy denied the statements being attributed to her and clarified that she had not visited Srinagar in some time in a comment published by The Wire.

Upon learning that Ms Roy had denied the statements attributed to her, we promptly removed our story. We apologise to Ms Roy for not reaching out to her first, to confirm the comments before publishing.
