Panama JIT progress report presented before apex court bench

The apex court expressed trust in the JIT, stressing that the report must be completed on time

ISLAMABAD: The JIT probing the Panama Leaks case as per the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, apprised the apex court bench regarding the team's progress on Monday. 

The three-member apex court bench, headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal, reviewed the report presented by the JIT and expressed its trust in the in the team. 

Justice Ejaz Afzal stressed that the JIT report findings must be completed within the stipulated 60-day time limit. 

Justice Azmat Saeed expressed his satisfaction and remarked that the JIT investigation was heading in the right direction. He told Wajid Zia, the head of the JIT, that if cooperation was needed from any other institution or if any department was creating hurdles in way of the investigation, he should inform the court. 

During proceedings, PTI's counsel Fawad Chaudhry requested that the JIT finding report be shared with them, which the bench dismissed. 

Justice Azmat Saeed asked the PTI counsel to give reference to any criminal case where a report was made public in such a manner and remarked that the report would be made public when the time comes.

The bench remarked that the court knew well how to have its orders implemented, stressing that it was the court's order to complete the report in the stipulated time. 

The hearing was then adjourned to reconvene on the 7th of June.
