LAHORE: A spokesperson from the Governor's House on Wednesday contradicted the reports, which said that Punjab Governor Salman Taseer had proceeded abroad unceremoniously.
The spokesperson clarified that the Punjab Governor was on a private visit to Sukkur and would return Lahore after a short stay in Karachi this evening.
It may be noted that the issue was raised during the Punjab Assembly session by the Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, who maintained that the Punjab Governor had proceeded abroad without giving acting charge to anyone and that his absence could trigger constitutional crisis in the province.
The proceedings of the house were suspended for 15 minutes to ascertain whether the Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan could chair the PA session.
As per rules, Speaker PA cannot chair the assembly session while he is 'Acting Governor' of the province.
