LAHORE: As fruit purchase continued in the city despite a call for boycott, Christians decorated the Lahore cathedral with apples, bananas and melons to celebrate Pentecost Day.

A large number of people from the Christian community gathered at the church to be thankful for the blessings bestowed upon them. They also prayed for the victory of Pakistan in the match the team was playing against India.

As per their faith, Christians commemorate the festival 50 days after Easter.

People present at the cathedral told Geo News they believe that Pentecost is the day when fruits came to the world.

Besides fruits, wheat sheaves and vegetables also hung on the sides of the church's aisle.

Although fruit purchase was to be boycotted as per a call against soaring prices, people in Lahore have been buying the produce in large quantities nevertheless. They said had the call been made before of after Ramazan they would have stood by it, but eating fruits was necessary during the month of fasting.
