ISLAMABAD: PM's aide on political affairs Dr. Asif Kirmani, maintaining that Imran Khan failed to prove his money trail, has demanded formation of a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The Supreme Court has been hearing a petition filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi regarding ‘foreign funding’ of the PTI and served notices to Imran Khan and his party in May, over issues relating to money trail surrounding purchase of the PTI chief’s estate in Bani Gala.

The apex court had asked 14 questions from the PTI chairman regarding purchase of Bani Gala land and an offshore firm he owned. This prompted Imran to contact his ex-wife Jemima Goldsmith, asking for the record of bank transactions for the purchase of land.

Speaking on Geo News' program 'Naya Pakistan,' Kirmani said (Prime Minister Nawaz and his family) are cooperating with the Panama case JIT, constituted to probe the Sharif family in the aftermath of disclosures made in the Panama Papers leaks, and they will continue to do so in future.

He admitted that his party had reservations over the investigation team, which were raised before the apex court.

Noting that the prime minister presented himself and his family for accountability, the PM's aide said: "We have a single strategy pertaining to the JIT: justice be done to us."

He recounted that Premier Sharif was subjected to ruthless accountability in the reign of former military ruler Gen (R) Pervez Musharraf.

About calling in of an ambulance at the Federal Judicial Academy - the temporary headquarters of the Panama case JIT - while PM's son Hussain Nawaz was present there, Kirmani said they only saw the ambulance coming in and later leaving the building, but didn't know who called it.

Commenting on the leaked picture of Hussain Nawaz, he urged the Supreme Court to find out as to who leaked the picture and why.
