BAHAWALPUR: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday handed death sentence to a man for uploading blasphemous content on social media.

According to the CTD, the accused used to upload blasphemous and hateful content on social networking sites.

He was arrested by Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) a year ago and a case was lodged against him under relevant clauses of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The ATC conducted hearings of the case in New Central Jail Bahawalpur, over a year's period. The court today handed death sentence to the accused.

This is first case in which an accused has been sentenced to death over blasphemy on social media.

He, however, can file an appeal against the ATC verdict in high court and the Supreme Court.
