ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif wrote to the Supreme Court to form a commission to probe the Panama case even before he received the summons, said State Minister for Information Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Monday.
The prime minister had assured the apex court that if called he and his family would appear before the court in accordance with the law, Aurangzeb said while talking to the media.
The state minister was referring to the summons issued by the Panama case JIT to Prime Minister Nawaz, asking him to appear before the team on June 15. A statement issued by the Prime Minister House on Sunday confirmed the development.
The premier has been asked to come to the Federal Judicial Academy — temporary headquarters of the JIT — at 11AM on Thursday, along with relative record and documents, according to the letter sent to the PM House by the JIT.
While talking to reporters on Monday, Aurangzeb said that Prime Minister Nawaz has always stood by the judiciary and has shown cooperation, while many others summoned by the court have avoided attending over one reason or the other.
Aurangzeb also lashed out at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairperson Imran Khan for stating on the social media that he forced the premier to appear before the Supreme Court. “Imran Khan you yourself are fugitive from the Election Commission of Pakistan.”
