KARACHI: Although they moved to another locality to escape being killed, a man and his son were shot dead by their opponents, said the police on Tuesday.

The deceased man was involved in the Lyari gang war, police added.

On Monday night, two persons barged into an apartment on the ninth floor of Sunny Pride building in Gulistan-e-Johar area of Karachi. They opened fire, killing a 55-year-old resident, Muhammad Ali, and his 30-year-old son, Asif. According to the police, the slain father and son belonged to the Baba Ladla group of the Lyari gang war, while the murderers were from the Arshad Pappu group.

While the two persons had barged into the apartment, the other two stood guard outside.

Police said the family had moved to the apartment two years back over fear of being killed by their opponents. However, they could not escape for long as their murderers eventually found them.

Police found 14 shells of a 9mm pistol from the site and handed them to the forensic department for examination.

Three of Asif's brothers have been killed over a dispute over drugs, said the police.

A case was registered in which Asif's wife nominated Ishaq alias Yaqoob Mama and Bilal Pappu, among four others.
