KARACHI: Police detained a man for driving around the streets of the city with a lioness in his vehicle. But the owner insisted he had a licence to keep the animal.

The police sprung into action after a video surfaced showing the lioness owner, Saqlain, driving in Karimabad area of Karachi with the big cat sitting at the back of his double-cabin pickup.

Saqlain sits with his lioness.

Subsequently, Gulberg SP Bashir Ahmed Brohi along with a police team raided a house in Block 13 of FB Area, detaining Saqlain. The lioness was also taken into custody by the police.

However, Saqlain told the police the lioness was ill which is why he was taking her for a medical check-up. The animal owner said he had all the relevant documents required to keep a wild animal as a domestic one.

But the SP said the licence had expired, therefore, action would be taken in the case.
