LAHORE: At least seven people were killed and around 11 injured, including four children, in separate rain-related incidents on Wednesday.
In Raiwind, Lahore, the roof of a warehouse collapsed under which five labourers were buried. Rescue teams were able to save two labourers, however three were killed on the spot.
The deceased and injured were shifted to Jinnah hospital.
In a similar incident in Green Town, seven people were injured when the roof of their house collapsed. The injured include four children and two elders. The injured belonged to the same family.
Roof collapse incidents occurred due to the continuous rains in Lahore.
Meanwhile, four women died in separate incidents after gusty winds, followed by heavy rain, hit various cities in Punjab.
The pre-monsoon rains lashed Multan, Bahawalpur, Jhang, Lodhran, Vehari, Khanewal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Faisalabad, Lahore, Gojra, Bhakkar, Sargodha and Mianwali districts of Punjab.
The incidents claimed lives of four women, while over a dozen people were reported injured.
The Met Office has said that intermittent rains will continue in the region for the next few days.
Moreover, the torrential rain in Lahore resulted in tripping of around 100 electricity feeders of the Lahore Electric Supply Company which led to power cuts in several areas in and around the city.
Officials said several feeders were brought back online since morning and work on several is under way.
Lahore's Walton Road area, which leads to Defence locality, was also completely flooded owing to the rain.
Intermittent downpour continues in various districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa as well.
Moreover, Islamabad along with several areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan also received rainfall, turning the weather pleasant.
Met officials said more rain is expected in the northern areas of the country, adding that pleasant weather is expected there as well as along the Sindh coast during the Eid holidays.
Reports also indicated that several low-lying areas of northern Balochistan and KP were flooded due to the rain.
