KARACHI: With Eid around the corner, most people are visiting markets more frequently. However, the steep rise in the street crimes has become a nuisance for the people, it was revealed on Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath on Friday.

According to the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) report, there has been an increase in the number of mobile phones stolen this Ramazan as compared to last year.

Last year, about 1,625 mobile phones were stolen in the first 25 days of Ramazan, while this year about 1,725 mobile phones were stolen, according to CPLC statistics.

To investigate the matter further, Geo News spoke to different customers in markets across Karachi.

Street crime has increased quite a lot especially during Ramazan, remarked one of the people, who spoke to Geo News at Zainab Market.

Another customer remarked that “the situation is really bad”. He shared that in a shop near his house in Gulshan, street criminals looted about Rs40,000 from a man along with mobile phones from everyone there.

On the other hand, some customers denied that the street crime has increased. “I don’t think street crime is that common anymore,” remarked another customer.

Some customers shared that Rangers deployment has provided them some relief but they are still scared to carry huge amounts of money.

“We got some relief but street crime is still a big problem,” said one of the female customers.

Another shared, she was always scared while travelling from less inhabited areas however now Rangers are present at such areas and that helps her feel secure.
