Bahawalpur oil tanker fire: Driver, 16-year-old boy succumb to burn wounds

Death toll has reached 164; 39 in critical condition at burn unit of Nishtar Hospital

BAHAWALPUR: The driver of the leaking oil tanker in Ahmedpur Sharqia also succumbed to his burn wounds, along with another injured person, taking the death toll to 164 on Wednesday.

The tanker driver, Gul Muhammad, along with 16-year-old Shoaib, was under treatment at the burn unit of Nishtar Hospital in Multan. The number of people who have so far succumbed to the burn wounds has increased to 20, while 39 others were still being treated and were stated to be in critical condition until this report was filed.

The incident had taken place in the area on Sunday, a day before Eid was to be celebrated in most parts of the country.

On Tuesday, the bodies of 125 victims of the oil tanker fire incident were laid to rest in Ramzan Joiya village, Ahmedpur East.

The relatives of the victims and a large number of locals offered combined funeral prayers of the deceased, after the 125 bodies were brought to Ramzan Joiya village from Bahawal Victoria Hospital.

Residents made arrangements for prayers and dug up 200 graves in Nazirabad graveyard.
