One more victim of Ahmedpur East incident succumbs to injuries

LAHORE: One more victim of the Ahmedpur East oil tanker fire succumbed to injuries on Tuesday (today), taking the death toll to 208.

The deceased, who was being treated at Jinnah Hospital Lahore, passed away early Tuesday morning, focal person Dr Amir Mehmood said.

A total of 61 injured in the incident are being treated at different hospitals. 23 of the 61 injured are admitted to Bahawalpur Victoria Hospital, 16 to Nishtar Hospital Multan, 14 to THQ Hospital Ahmedpur East, and eight to Jinnah Hospital Lahore. 

The incident took place on a route of the National Highway on June 25, a day before Eid was to be celebrated in most parts of the country.

A large number of people were charred to death on the spot as an overturned oil tanker exploded. 

The deceased and injured included passers-by and residents, who had gathered to collect oil that was leaking from the tanker.
