Pakistani actress Meera Irteza says Twitter is her new hobby and she is “enjoying the response” to her tweets.
Internet users in Pakistan have recently crowned Meera as the undisputed troll queen, after she sent twitter on a tailspin with her witty and unrestrained tweets. The actress has become notorious for speaking her mind.
No one, not politicians nor her fellow actors, have remained safe from her verbal barbs.
On June 18, when the prime minister’s daughter, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, congratulated the Pakistan cricket team on winning the Champions Trophy, Meera shot back, “Aap please light dene pe ghaur karein.” (Please concentrate on providing electricity). Her response garnered close to 2,000 retweets.
Later, she went after Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad. When a follower asked her if she would consider marrying Ahmad, she replied, “Chi chi chi. #bye.”
“On Twitter, I can speak my heart out,” she tells Geo.TV, “I am really enjoying it. Being a celebrity it allows me to directly interact with my fans.”
Despite her 48,000 followers, she says she reads each and every response, even the negative ones.
Although Meera set up her Twitter account a few years ago, she was largely inactive on the site, tweeting only sporadically, until last month. “There is no reason as to why I have become more active. I guess I have more time these days.”
When asked if someone else is tweeting on her behalf, she said, “People seem to think that my sister runs my account that is not true. I write each post myself and tweet from my iPhone 6.”
