Malala Yousafzai has finally joined Twitter.

The teenager, who was shot by a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Taliban gunman in 2012 in Swat, tweeted “Today is my last day of school and my first day on @Twitter” today.

On her first day on Twitter, the young women’s rights and education activist has already amassed 13.5 million followers.

Her Twitter bio reads, “19 years old | advocate for girls’ education and women's equality | founder @MalalaFund”.

After surviving a fatal head shot for her activism, Malala rose to fame as a role model for young girls across the world, inspiring them to pursue their education come what may.

She has been presented with numerous awards and given honorary citizenship by Canada for her unwavering support for and funding of education initiatives.
