PM honored SC by sacking ministers: CJ
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chauhdry Wednesday said the Prime Minister honored the Supreme Court by removing two Federal Cabinet ministers, Geo News reported.

He made these remarks while hearing a suo mottu case in connection with five deaths during a drag car race held in Rawalpindi.

A three-judge bench headed by the CJP heard the case.

The Chief Justice said that police officers including RPO were concealing from the court facts relating to drag car race. The investigation of the case is being carried out by the same officer who had given permission for holding the event, he noted.

“Only yesterday two federal ministers were stripped out of their portfolios,” Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry said pointing to the RPO Fakhar Sultan and asked him what worth the latter thought he held in this context.

RPO Rawalpindi told the court that 3000 tickets of drag race had been sold and 34 cars registered for the race.

Senior legal expert Khalid Anwar assisting the court said the organizers of the drag race committed an illegal act, putting many lives at risk. However, the case is not for murder but for making money by violating the law.

Advocate General Punjab told the court that disciplinary action has been initiated against the officers involved.

The Chief Justice directed the Advocate General Punjab to bring this matter into the knowledge of Punjab Chief Minister.

Later, the case was adjourned till January 3, 2011.
