ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Monday called on Nawaz Sharif to immediately resign as the prime minister in light of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report.

Imran Khan added that the report’s findings have vindicated him and finally the opposition's hard work paid off. He said that his party’s reservations proved to be true.

Imran Khan addresses media

While addressing the media, Khan reiterated several times that the prime minister should resign.

Imran alleged the ruling party went all out to obstruct the investigation and in the process discredited the state institutions, compelling them to use wrong methods.

“I am grateful that at the end truth has prevailed, whatever we have been saying all along today came out before everyone,” he said.

The PTI chief said that the ruling party tried to carry out slanderous propaganda against him and his family members in order to hide their theft.

The PTI chairman later in the day tweeted expressing his viewpoint regarding the issue of the JIT report.

He said that the PTI’s position has been vindicated today and Nawaz Sharif lied to the nation, parliament and the SC.

The JIT in its report observed major disparities in the finances of the Sharif family and their known and declared sources of income and recommended action under NAB Ordinance 1999.

The JIT recommended that a reference be filed against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, daughter Maryam Nawaz, sons Hussain and Hasan Nawaz with NAB.

"Significant gap/disparity amongst the known and declared sources of income and the wealth accumulated by the Respondent No. 1, 6, 7 and 8 have been observed," said the investigation team in its closing remarks.
