ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Wednesday came down hard on the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) for what she termed as the “character assassination” of government functionaries by the team in its final report, saying the task of the team was to find answers to 13 questions.
“Who gave the JIT the right to call anyone a liar,” asked Aurangzeb.
The minister added that this is the third conspiracy after the failure of the last two sit-ins, warning that the conspirators would be exposed regardless of what the outcome is.
She said that the party’s reservations over the JIT remain and that the report has confirmed these reservations.
“The report has confirmed Sharif family’s reservations of malice against the JIT,” she said.
Criticising political parties for demanding the prime minister’s resignation, the information minister said that they should first read the report and claimed that everyone is commenting on select parts of the report.
Aurangzeb added that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawyers are studying the report and will file responses accordingly.
Terming the report sd “trash”, senior PML-N leader Daniyal Aziz pointed out alleged flaws and discrepancies in the report, claiming the JIT did not collect relevant documents but created them.
“Why was volume 10 kept secret,” asked Aziz, adding that the JIT used unconfirmed sources in the formation of the report.
The minister said that while the JIT has told the Supreme Court that it is a complete report, various parts are empty and some important information is also missing.
“JIT has wasted the time and money of the nation,” said Aziz.
The political climate of the country heated up after the JIT submitted its final probe report to the apex court on Monday.
The report, spread over 10 volumes, was brought in two cartons which were carried on a trolley into the apex court.
Following the report, various leaders of political parties demanded the prime minister step down, while the government has refused to entertain the possibility.
Commenting on the ‘Calibri font controversy’, Aziz claimed that the font was designed in 2004 and its usage was possible before 2007. The font was made public in 2007, he said.
