UBAURO: At least 12 new cases of polio have been detected in Ghotki district showed the failure of health department in eradicating the disease despite funding and other support by the World Health Organization and several other local organizations.

The tests sent to Islamabad laboratory have confirmed 12 children in Ghotki districts as polio patients, sources in district health department told PPI.

The children having polio disease are 3-year Abdullah, 6-year girl Sawera Shahzad Mirbahar, 6-year Maqsood Ahmed, 4-year Sadoro, 1-year Wajid, one and half a year Riaz, 3-year Kashmira and others of Ghotki, Mirpur Mathelo and Daharki areas.

Sources said five percent children of the district remain un-vaccinated during the anti-polio drives. One of the main reasons for the failure is shortage of cold storage facilities due to which the vaccine gets expired.
