LANDI KOTAL: Two suspected militants were killed in retaliatory fire after they attempted to attack a border post in Khyber Agency on Friday morning.
Security officials said two militants, wearing suicide vests, opened fire at the Frontier Corps' (FC) Jarobi Camp, close to the Afghan border, and attempted to enter through the main gate.
In retaliatory fire, one suspected suicide bomber was killed while the other blew himself up, injuring two FC officials.
The injured officials were transported to Peshawar for treatment via helicopter.
Sources said following the incident, the FC launched a search operation in the area and also conducted retaliatory fire at suspected militant hideouts across the border.
In a statement, the Pakistan Army said terrorists, including two suicide bombers, from across the border attempted to attack the Misthara Post, around two kilometres northwest of Jarobi on the Pak-Afghan border.
The main headquarters of the FC in the tribal agency is located in Landi Kotal tehsil.
In March this year, two FC were martyred in an attack on an FC check post in the tribal agency.
Pakistan Army effectively responded to the aggression and killed six terrorists in retaliatory fire, the military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement later.
Two FC personnel embraced martyrdom in the attack which was carried out from across the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, the ISPR stated.
Pakistan has repeatedly protested that terrorists are taking advantage of the turmoil in Afghanistan and using Afghan soil to orchestrate terrorist attacks in Pakistan.
The Pakistan Army last month also launched multiple strikes across the border targetting terrorist hideouts in retaliation to the aggression.
An earlier version of this report misstated that a post of the Frontier Constabulary was attacked. The error is regretted.
