Under the downpour: Woman, daughter die in Lower Kurram Agency

Rainwater stands on roads, disrupts life in Hyderabad and other areas of country

PARACHINAR: As rain continued to wreak havoc in parts of the country, a woman and her six-month-old daughter died in Lower Kurram Agency on Friday.

The woman, 30, along with her daughter was at her parent’s house, the roof of which caved in due to the monsoon downpour. Subsequently, the mother and daughter died, while six others in the house were injured.

Besides, at least seven people died in different rain-related incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between Thursday and Friday, according to a report by Provincial Disaster Management Authority KP.

The deceased include four children and three women, who died in separate incidents, including those of roof collapse and land sliding, as per the report. The affected districts of KP include Haripur, Buner, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Mansehra and Lakki Marwat.

In Hyderabad, rain on Friday night revealed mismanagement in the local administration, as the roads and systems could not stand half an hour of showers.

As soon as rain started, many feeders of Jacobabad Electric Supply Company tripped, plunging the city into darkness.

Moreover, water left by the downpour stood on the roads until Saturday morning.
