ISLAMABAD, Dec 18 (APP): As many as 7,500 policemen remained engaged for security duties at processions of `Ashura' in Capital along with personnel of Frontier Constabulary (FC) and Rangers.
Around 10,000 security officials, including 7,500 policemen, 1,500 personnel of Rangers, over 1,500 FC men and three companies of Army remained deployed in capital during Muharram to safeguard processions of `Ashura'.
Keeping in view the security arrangements for previous year, elaborate steps had been made this year, and security to remain alert for next 30 days.
The role of police, FC, Rangers had been also appreciated by Ministry of Interior in maintaining fool proof security on Muharram ul Haram in the capital.
IGP Islamabad Syed Kaleem Imam has appreciated DIG (Operations) Bani Ameen DIG (Security) Dr. Mujeeb ur Rehman, SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan, SSP (Traffic) Dr. Moeen Masood, SP of four zones, security volunteers for ensuring fool proof security. He also thanked the organizers of processions, majalis and mourners for their cooperation in maintaining elaborate security arrangements.
According to details, a special control room at Aabpara Police Station was also set up to supervise security arrangements for Ashura processions, which worked round the clock. DIG (Operations) Bani Ameen and SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan themselves monitored security arrangements and remained present along with routes of processions.
The representatives and personnel from Operation Division, Security Division, Logistic Division, traffic and other law enforcement agencies, including Frontier Constabulary and Rangers worked together in three shifts.
Special duties were assigned to the police contingents along with police in plain clothes to provide the security cover to the processions and Majalis.
Adequate security arrangements were also made for five trouble spots in the district, where additional police force remained deployed and no untoward incident occurred.
Monitoring cameras were installed along the routes of main processions. Islamabad Traffic Police also issued a special traffic plan for Muharram ul Haram and deployed more than 225 policemen including officers and jawans on the various routes of processions to avoid any inconvenience to the road users.
SSP (Traffic) Dr. Moeen Masood himself monitored the arrangements made to ensure smooth flow of traffic. Islamabad Operational Police ensured protection to the mourners while Islamabad Traffic Police guided the road users to alternate routes to avoid any inconvenience.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Kaleem Imam has appreciated his force and said Islamabad Police is the best force in the country and its officials and jawans had performed security duties very well.
