Pakistan’s top professional boxer and two-time World Boxing Council (WBC) silver flyweight champion Muhammad Waseem is ready to take on Panama’s Ivan Trejos in a fight in Panama City on Saturday.
This will be the second fight for the 2014 Asian Games bronze medalist this month, after he knocked out Panama’s Eliecer Valdez on July 5 on his way to preparing for the world title bout which is yet to be finalised.
Waseem, who hails from Quetta, has been preparing in Panama since June 29 with Las Vegas-based trainer Jeff Mayweather, the uncle of world-famous Floyd Mayweather, for a probable WBC title fight in December this year.
The 29-year-old shot to fame as a pro when he won world silver title by beating Jether Oliva of the Philippines on July 17, 2016, in Korea. He went on to defend his crown on November 27 last year, also in Korea, after downing Giemel Magramo of the Philippines.
So far, Waseem has won all six of his pro fights and will be hoping to defeat Trejo to claim his seventh straight victory.
Speaking to Geo.tv, Waseem said the fight with Trejos will be quite “tough” but he is ready to beat his opponent.
“Insha’Allah I hope to win this fight as well and dedicate the victory to Pakistan,” the boxer said, adding that he has his eyes set on the world title fight later in December.
“I hope to continue winning all my fights and bring the titles home to my country. Pakistan Zindabad!” he said.
Waseem’s fight with Trejos will take place at 8am on July 30 (Sunday), according to Pakistan time.
