KARACHI: A woman was arrested in Chanesar Goth area of the city for being involved in the sale of drugs to students of schools and colleges.

According to sources, an investigation into the matter has revealed the 40-year-old woman, Kulsoom alias Bhabhi, has been in the business of drug peddling for the past 16 years.

Sources said the woman was also working as the front person for all the drug peddlers in Chanesar Goth — she would collect money from them and give it to policemen in Mehmoodabad and Tipu Sultan police stations. She gave money to the police as a bribe so she and others in the business stayed safe from being arrested.

The drug peddler was arrested during a joint search operation of the Rangers and police in Chanesar Goth Saturday night.

Around a month back, a lecturer of Islamic College, Peshawar was arrested on suspicion of selling drugs in the varsity.

SSP Operations Sajjad Khan had told Geo News Bashir Ahmad, a lecturer in the English department, was arrested from Regi Model Town, an area in the city that shares a border with Khyber Agency of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

A total of 20 grammes of ‘ice’ and 150 grammes of hashish were recovered from the lecturer, Sajjad had said.

He added complaints of drugs being used in the varsity had been reported earlier, after which police took action. He explained that police had set up special checkpoints and arrested him when his vehicle was stopped and checked.
