Pakistani cricket star Shahid Khan Afridi on Friday reacted to the ongoing storm of allegations in the country after a member of the National Assembly Ayesha Gulalai alleged her party chairman Imran Khan had been making advances and sending her indecent messages.
Afridi posted on microblogging site Twitter, asking, "Is politics in Pakistan only about mudslinging on each other?"
He added that we must all be responsible and take control of ourselves. "We must think about our future generations," he wrote before adding "it is our responsibility to improve Pakistan's image but instead we are making a joke out of ourselves globally."
He appealed to the media in particular not to give coverage to those hurling allegations on Pakistan in each other and to adhere to their core responsibility.
Since the moment Ayesha Gulalai made her startling revelations, social media has been vilifying her, hurling accusations and insults at her. There have been threats promoting an acid attack on her and even razing her home to the ground.
The situation reached such a point that Gulalai appealed for security in light of the threats, resulting in Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi ordering round the clock security for Gulalai and her family.
