KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel killed three suspected suicide bombers in a late-night encounter in Machar Colony area on Sunday, foiling a major terror bid targeting the metropolis, CTD said earlier today.

Addressing a press conference, DIG CTD Amir Farooqui and SSP CTD Omar Shahid Hamid said the CTD carried out raids in three different localities during which three suspected suicide bombers were killed and four other terrorists were arrested, potentially saving the city from a major terror plot.

DIG CTD Amir Farooqui said India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and Afghanistan’s intelligence agency NDS were involved in terror bids in Karachi.

The deceased terrorists have not yet been identified. Weapons including Kalashnikov and pistols, and a home-made bomb were found in possession of the deceased terrorists, he said.

The official stated that two sleeper cells were also traced during the overnight raids.

Three accomplices of the absconders who escaped from the Karachi prison recently are being interrogated in relation to the latest raid, the official added.
