ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI), headed by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, was held on Friday.
Sources said the initial results of the sixth housing and population census were presented in the CCI meeting.
Moreover, the national water and forest policies were also presented for approval in the meeting, along with LNG deals and proposals for increasing Karachi's water supply.
Sources said the CCI meeting had an 11-point agenda, which also included additional water supply of 1,200 cusecs to Karachi, formation of a fiscal coordination committee, Katchi canal corruption inquiry and approval of the senior citizens bill.
Following the meeting, the four provincial chief ministers held separate meetings with the premier in which they discussed development and other issues related to their provinces.
Media reports stated on August 18 that the newly-elected premier reconstituted the CCI, with the eight-member council now comprising four members from Punjab.
The last CCI, under former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, had two members each from the four provinces.
With the reconstitution of the council, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have lost a member each.
Besides the four provincial chief ministers, the CCI now comprises the federal ministers for inter-provincial coordination, industries and production and finance.
The CCI was set to meet on July 31 but could not convene owing to the disqualification of Sharif by the Supreme Court on July 28 in the Panama Papers case.
