Hydal power falls by 2300MWs; de-silting underway

LAHORE: The cleaning of canals in the country has been set in with water outflow decreased from Tarbela and Mangla dams, Geo News reported Sunday.

Hydal Power production also whittled down by 2300 Megawatts. The canals de-silting work has been started that will continue till January 31. The outflow from Tarbela and Mangla dams has been shrunk.

At least 30,000 cusecs outflow have been cut from Tarbela and 18,000 cusecs from Mangla Dam.

According to Flood Forecast Division Lahore, Tarbela dam is running 93 feet above dead level, i.e. nearly 1471.7 feet with dam receiving 18,000 cusecs and discharging 20,000 cusecs.

Mangla Dam is at 1132.60-foot level with inflow at 6,000 cusecs and outflow at 10,000 cusecs. The overall usable water at both the dams is 4204,000 acre feet.

The slump in power production has led to shortfall of 3000 MWs. Increase in demand caused the power outages span to be widened.

According to Pepco sources, a load shedding plan comprising five hours in cities and eight hours in rural areas, has been drawn up to meet the power shortage of 2300 MWs in Hydal power in the country.
