LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek Chairperson Dr Tahirul Qadri arrived in Lahore on Thursday morning after a brief stay in London.
Speaking to the press at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Qadri said that he hopes that the courts will make Justice Ali Baqar Najafi Commission report public, adding that as according to the NAB ordinance National Accountability Bureau cases against Sharif family should be heard on daily basis and their decision should come within a month.
The PAT chief said that the institutions don’t hold power to give justice to the poor segment of the society.
"It is difficult for a common man to get a clean chit from NAB but despite being served three notices Sharif family didn’t appear before it," he said.
Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday summoned a response from the government by September 12 on a petition filed for the release of a judicial inquiry report conducted by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi into the killings of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT)’s workers in 2014.
The petition is filed by the families of victims killed in Model Town during an ‘anti-encroachment’ operation conducted by police. At least 14 people were killed and 100 others injured in the police action.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanullah, however, talking to Geo News earlier, said that the case is still being heard by the court and the report cannot be made public till then.
If the court deems fit it can make the report public, he added.
Sanaullah said that lawyers representing PAT had themselves challenged the constitution of the commission, adding that Qadri is using the incident for political means.
