They couldn't tolerate Nawaz's popularity, says Maryam
Former PM's daughter holds meeting on NA-120 by-election; to visit constituency later in the day

LAHORE: When a leader becomes so popular then a Iqama type decision against him is delivered, said Maryam Nawaz on Sunday while referring to the grounds of her father's disqualification by the Supreme Court on July 28.
The former prime minister's daughter made the comments while meeting a delegation of lawyers in Model Town, where she chairs meetings related to the NA-120 by-election.
Maryam is spearheading her mother Kulsoom Nawaz's campaign while she undergoes medical treatment in London.
Chairing a meeting on Sunday, Maryam said her family's rights were violated as their internal matters were discussed in the public for over a year.
During the meeting, Maryam was accompanied by Senator Pervaiz Rasheed, State Interior Minister Talal Chaudhry and party leader Maiza Hameed.
"If the allegations [against Nawaz] had any truth, then they should have been proved, what was the need for an Iqama," she said, referring to Nawaz's disqualification due to the holding of a work permit for UAE.
"Nawaz Sharif talks about Pakistan’s progress and development," she said further.
Referring to the Panama Papers case, she said the decision of a single case came four times and will now come for a fifth.
Maryam lamented that the then premier was disqualified first and later a case was started against him. "Even the JIT’s stars couldn’t unearth corruption worth a penny despite using all the national and international resources."
Later in the day, Maryam is expected to visit the NA-120 constituency — a near-daily exercise for the former premier's daughter.
A tough contest is expected in the constituency between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's Kulsoom and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's Yasmin Rashid on September 17.
