KARACHI: The international cricket council has confirmed that the upcoming three T20 matches between Pakistan and World XI for the independence series carry international status and performances will be calculated for individual rankings.
A 14-member ICC World XI side, led by South Africa's Faf du Plessis, will arrive in Pakistan on Monday to play three T20 matches in Lahore on September 12, 13 and 15.
“The Faf du Plessis-led World XI side has five players from South Africa and also a selection of big names from six other test-playing countries in a series that has been given T20I status so performances will count in the calculation of individual rankings,” ICC said in a statement.
However, results of the matches will not have an impact on team rankings, as rankings are calculated on basis of ratings of two national teams.
“Individual rankings are calculated on individual performance but team rankings are calculated on basis of ratings of two competing national teams,” explained an official of ICC.
“In this case, two national teams are not competing, hence no teams’ ranking will be counted,” the official explained.
However, it is certain that several leading players from across the world will get a chance to enhance their T20 international rankings in the Independence Cup series.
