ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued notices on Friday to eight parliamentarians for violating the code of conduct by participating in the election campaign for the upcoming NA-120 by-elections.
As per the ECP code of conduct, members of assemblies cannot be part of election campaigns. Therefore, notices have been issued to leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for campaigning for Begum Kulsoom Nawaz and Yasmin Rashid, candidates from the respective parties.
The notices have been sent to Minister of State for Interior Affairs Talal Chaudhry, Senator Pervaiz Rasheed, MNAs Shaista Pervaiz and Maiza Hameed, MPA Malik Saif-ul-Malook Khokhar and Rukhsana Khokhar for participating in the by-election gatherings for Kulsoom Nawaz.
PTI MPAs Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed and Saadia Suhail Rana have also been notified over their campaigns for Yasmin Rashid.
The chief secretary of Punjab has also been asked to respond in the matter.
The ECP has asked all the respondents to reply either in person or through their respective lawyers by September 20.
