DUBAI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Saturday met Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum — the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), who also rules Dubai — here at the Zabeel Palace.
In his latest visit — which marks the second one to the UAE this year — General Bajwa discussed with Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum the strategic relations between Pakistan and the UAE, as well as various other issues pertaining to the military and the ongoing regional situation.
General Bajwa expressed gratitude to Sheikh Mohammed for the humanitarian assistance the UAE provides to Pakistanis living there and the highly-valued development projects implemented in Pakistan in line with the directives of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, WAM — the UAE official news agency — reported.
The COAS also lauded the impressive development experienced by the UAE in all domains, especially economic and cultural growth, thanks to its wise leadership and balanced regional and international policies, the agency said.
Sheikh Mohammed, following his meeting with the COAS, praised the constructive role of Pakistanis living in UAE and their effective contribution to the country's development, WAM added.
Also in attendance were Crown Prince of Dubai Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai Maktoum bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, and the UAE's Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Anwar Mohammed Gargash.
Speaking to Geo.tv, diplomatic officials expressed hope that General Bajwa's visit to the UAE would help reduce the stress and anxiety among Pakistan and the Arab nations.
Numerous local defence analysts believe that the relations between the Pakistan and the UAE are experiencing turbulence since the former chose not to vote in favour of the latter for Expo 2020 — the world's biggest exhibition.
The historical fraternal relations then become more complicated when Pakistan's parliament rebuffed a Saudi request for military participation in its offensive against Yemeni rebels, analysts explained.
