ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairperson Imran Khan has become a hurdle in country’s progress.

Marriyum, in a statement on Sunday, rejected Imran’s speech at PTI’s workers' convention centre held earlier in the day. “Imran is just making noise to dupe people.” In his ambition for power, Imran doesn’t even care about the country’s progress, she pointed out.

People of Pakistan are aware of Imran’s tactics now, she said. “Imran has turned politics into an abuse.”

“As general elections are coming close, Imran Khan is getting scared of Maryam Nawaz’s shadow too.”

The ruling PML-N government has done a lot for the country. Due to efforts of PML-N’s government, Pakistan is respected across the globe, she added.

“Imran Khan is the only threat to Pakistan as he is against the country’s progress.” Imran is even a threat to the country’s institution as he keeps hurling abuses at them, she remarked in the statement.

Even though, Imran criticises his political opponents for not respecting the law yet he failed to appear before the courts himself.

Reacting to Imran’s speech, PML-N leader Talal Chaudhry said Imran engaging in politics using institutions. “It is because of Imran that institutions are being criticised.”

Imran lashes out at PML-N

Earlier, PTI Chairperson Imran Khan had said that the country's rulers have done nothing but use their power to accumulate wealth.

While addressing a party workers’ convention at the Jinnah convention centre on Sunday, he remarked that the country's rulers have destroyed the nation with their corrupt practices.

"Corruption is using your power to accumulate wealth," he said, adding this is not the type of politics country's founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah encouraged.

"The rulers only care about themselves. They have spent no money on education or human development," he added.

Taking a dig at Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) head Nawaz Sharif, Imran said that the rulers have stolen Rs300 billion from the nation. "However, when they appear before the court for accountability they exude invincibility."

The main problem is that the powerful don't think they can ever be held accountable for their actions, PTI chief remarked.
