MULTAN: The use of drugs is on the rise in southern Punjab’s largest educational institute, Bahauddin Zakaria University, according to a police report.
Geo News obtained the copy of the report sent to high-ups by the Special Branch. According to the report, security guards, students and other staff are involved in drug peddling.
According to resident officer (RO) of BZU, after receiving the report, all the data has been provided to the administration.
The university officials have also formed an inquiry committee to investigate the matter, said RO Muqarrab.
If anyone is found involved then strict action would be taken against them, he said.
In July, the members of the Punjab Higher Education Commission disclosed that drug addiction has increased among students in educational institutes.
Anti-narcotics consultant Syed Zulfikar Hussain claimed that 60 per cent of students in class 9 and 10 are smokers, further adding that the availability of narcotics is higher in private educational institutes.
Hussain added that in universities, where students usually come from higher-income families, drugs such as crystal meth, cocaine, hashish, heroin and LSD tablets are used.
