KARACHI: A man injured in firing during a mugging incident in the city breathed his last, after having been confined to bed for seven years.

Umair, 22, had been shot by robbers during a mugging attempt in a bus near KDA Chowrangi, Nazimabad, on Sept 14, 2010.

The bullet had hit the youth in the backbone, forcing him to stay on bed for the next seven years.

His family says the doctors in Karachi declined to treat him saying they were unable to cure him.

However, a group of doctors in the United States had agreed to treat Umair and the youth had appealed to well-to-do individuals to help him financially.

Umair's condition worsened Friday night, after which he was shifted to a hospital, but he succumbed to the wound during treatment.
