KARACHI: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 cricket team won the U19 Pentangular's Cup, defeating Punjab U19 in the final played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Six players selected through the Peshawar Zalmi talent hunt program were part of the winning team. The players credited Zalmi's efforts in making their success possible.
Captain of the team, Mohammad Arif, and bowlers Azam Khan and Arshad Iqbal played significant roles in taking their team to victory in the final encounter.
Arif played a captain's innings after two KPK U19 wickets fell for just five runs on the board. He scored 69 runs which proved vital in the success of his team.
Chasing 149 runs, the U19 Punjab team could only manage to score 133 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. The two scouted players from the Zalmo talent hunt program, Azam Khan and Arshad Iqbal, took two wickets each for the U19 team.
Chairman Peshawar Zalmi, Javed Afridi, expressed his delight after the U19 team won the U19 Pentangular's Cup.
Head coach Mohammad Akram credited Rashid Latif, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Basit Ali and Abdul Qadir in helping Zalmi discover special talents through their talent hunt program.
The 20-day training camp at the PCB also helped these players in building their confidence and for preparing them for the bigger stage.
A ceremony will be held in honour of the winning team members.
