ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples’ Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari said on Thursday that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is compromising national security to protect his family.

While speaking to party leaders in a meeting, he said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader is going to play a dangerous game by clashing with the state institutions, adding, in the current situation supporting Nawaz would be an ‘anti-state’ move.

He said that Nawaz is taking the country towards a point where there will be no stability.

The former president said that in a bid to save himself, and his family, Nawaz wants to weaken the judiciary, Parliament and other institutions. The PPP leader said countries plunge into civil war when institutions are destroyed.

"When the institutions are not functional then there are situations, like in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya at preesnt," he said. "Even US and NATO cant stablise them then"

Zardari added that the "PPP won't let Nawaz play the dangerous game as they (Sharif family) plan to run away abroad after destroying the country. But we will remain here".
