KARACHI: A copy of the written agreement between Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan and Pak Sarzameen Party emerged on Saturday, Geo News reported.

The agreement, which has been written by MQM-P Leader Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hassan, states that the two parties will contest the upcoming general elections under “one name, one election symbol and one manifesto,” as stated by both MQM-P chief Farooq Sattar and PSP Founder Mustafa Kamal in their joint press conference on November 8.

Moreover, the two parties have agreed to collaborate over anti-confrontational and anti-violence policies.

The two parties have also united in the wider interest of Karachi. The agreement further states that further plan of action will be taken after advisory sessions between the two parties.

Interestingly, the agreement does not mention Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi anywhere, however the party leaders have said time and time that Haqiqi is welcome to join their alliance.

Regrouping under 'one name, one symbol'

On Wednesday. MQM-P and PSP decided to regroup with "one name, one symbol and one manifesto", a year after the two political factions announced complete disassociation from their former leadership based in London.

Announcing their decision at a joint press conference MQM-P Chief Farooq Sattar and PSP Chairperson Mustafa Kamal said they had decided to do away with their differences to ensure that the vote bank from Sindh and Karachi is not divided.

"We will contest the upcoming elections under one name and symbol," Sattar said at the press conference, sitting alongside Kamal at the Karachi Press Club.

"We have decided to form a political alliance for the betterment of all," Sattar said, adding that the political alliance is the need of Karachi, Sindh, and Pakistan.

However a day later, reports emerged that Sattar is upset with his party members due to their negative response to the alliance.

In an hour-long press conference on Thursday, Sattar announced to quit the party and politics.

Reasoning his resignation Sattar had said: “I was saddened and hurt by the response I got [after the press conference]” he said. “I was disappointed with the response I got from PSP leaders and my own workers.”

In less than an hour, Sattar retracted the resignation to fulfill the wishes of his mother.

"My mother ordered me to continue serving the country and its people. To fulfill her wishes, I take my decision back," he remarked on late on Thursday night, almost an hour after announcing his decision to quit.

'Sattar requested establishment to bring us to the table'

PSP Founder Mustafa Kamal began his press conference on Saturday stating that he will comment on the "drama over the last two days", referring to the allegations by Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) chief Farooq Sattar.

Kamal said in a press conference at Pakistan House that he met with Sattar because the latter had requested the establishment to bring the two to the table.

The PSP chairman criticised the media and others for “creating a perception” that Sattar was abducted and forced into conducting a joint press conference.

“The conference took place in front of everyone and the media. Yet such a perception was created. Governor Sindh also claimed Sattar was abducted and forced to give the press conference,” he said.

Kamal added that Sattar has been giving the impression that whatever decisions PSP takes is at the behest of the establishment.
