LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday has decided to raise its voice against 'institutions that have crossed limits', sources told Geo News.

Chaired by PML-N President Nawaz Sharif at his Jati Umra residence, the significant meeting of the ruling party was attended by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq among other senior leaders.

A division within the party was noticeable, with some members advocating politics of resistence while others including PM Abbasi, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, and Governor of Punjab Shehbaz Sharif stressing that the party should adopt the approach of reconciliation, sources said.

The political situation of the country and the party’s plan of action for the next general elections was discussed at the meeting, according to sources. Nawaz heard the arguments presented from both sides but did not announce a decision.

A decision to strongly protest against a delay in elections and tampering of the process was also taken in the meeting, sources reported adding that the character assasination campaign of the party leadership would be made unsuccessful.

Attendees agreed on timely elections and decided to create the election cell to prepare for the polling with full fervour.

The party also decided that the 'minus-Nawaz' formula was unacceptable under any circumstances, sources said.

The corruption cases against the Sharif family were also part of the meeting's agenda.

A day earlier, the prime minister reached Lahore and held a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Shehbaz received the premier at the Lahore airport. Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Saeed, Punjab IG Arif Nawaz, Lahore CCPO Amin Vains, DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf, Lahore Commissioner Abdullah Sunbal and other senior officers were also present at the airport to welcome the premier.
