KARACHI: Authorities claimed on Friday to have arrested a suspect in connection with the deadly Sehwan suicide blast.

In February this year, more than 80 people were killed and over 300 injured in a terrorist attack on the Sufi shrine in Sindh.

During a press conference today, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) DIG Aamir Farooqi said the suspect was held in a coordinated raid with Sindh Rangers.

Giving details, Farooqi said Nadir Jakhrani alias Murshid was arrested in Manghopir area of the metropolis. He informed that the planning of the Sehwan attack took place at Dera Murad Jamali — a city located in Nasirabad District in Balochistan.

He added that all the people of the group involved in the attack have been identified by the police officials and are either dead or on the run.

The officer said that Daesh’s Sindh chief has been killed by the law enforcement agencies as well.

He said that there are clear-cut indications of "foreign hands" behind terror incidents in the country, including the Sehwan blast.

Farooqi said that the suicide bomber in the attack came from Afghanistan.

Before the formal press conference, Sindh Cheif Minister Murad Ali Shah was informed about the suspect's arrest by Inspector General AD Khawaja and the additional IG of CTD.

The chief minister lauded the performance of police officials in arresting the suspect.

On February 17, at least 88 people were martyred when a suicide bomber attacked the crowded Sufi shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sehwan, injuring up to 343 others.

The powerful blast took place inside the premises of the shrine as a dhamaal was taking place.

Terrorist organisation Daesh claimed responsibility for the attack. The suspect is said to be affiliated with a number of other proscribed organizations before joining Daesh.
